Councillor and candidate agree on mental health and addictions issue

North Bay city councillor Tanya Vrebosch endorsed Ontario Liberal leadership candidate, Nate Erskine-Smith, on Friday, Nov. 25.

Our shared belief of ‘a good idea, is a good idea, no matter who brings it forward’ is something that sets him apart from other candidates.

Thousands of members of the Ontario Liberal Party voted Saturday and Sunday for their new leader but the results won’t be announced until Dec. 2.

Erskine-Smith made North Bay his final stop in the leadership race.

This was Erskine-Smith’s second visit to North Bay and tenth tour of northern Ontario.

Erskine-Smith along with Vrebosch, former Ontario Liberal candidate, met with community members to discuss northern Ontario issues as well as Erskine-Smith’s

policies and ideas for the future.

Vrebosch stated she supports Erskine-Smith for leader based on his commitment to northern Ontario, continued expansion of Ontario Northland service, and serious solutions to address housing, homelessness, and mental health.

"There are a lot of great candidates running for Leader of the

Ontario Liberal Party. I shared what I felt was important to the people in the Nipissing District and northern Ontario and Nate not only listened but included it in part of his platform,” Vrebosch said.

“Our shared belief of 'a good idea, is a good idea, no matter who brings it forward’ is something that sets him apart from other candidates along with our shared philosophy of fiscal management with a social

conscience.”

Vrebosch said she shared her concerns about how the health crisis is hitting residents in Nipissing District and the North.

“I told him that we needed someone who was going to come out with a bold and fundamental change to our entire system to address the significant mental health and addiction challenges that we are facing."
